As dawn breaks, Alan Fitzackery’s day is already well underway. Located just minutes from the centre of Swords, Fingal’s main town, his dairy cattle herd makes their way down from the pasture to the milking house each morning. They know their way, and once the gate opens, it’s a slow paced walk along a well worn path. A family farm that’s come down through the generations, Alan and his brother quietly go about their work before the herd makes their way back up to the fields.
The rich grass fed milk, is then brought a few miles up the road to St. Margarets, where Bainne Bó, the family’s retail outlet and cafe is located.. just on the western edge of Dublin airport. Pasteurised on site, customer’s can fill their own bottle with chilled farm fresh milk from a vending machine, add some flavours for the kids and enjoy a coffee. This is an add-value business helping to support a small dairy farm whilst giving customers direct access to high quality milk products.
